Chinese Drill can now read Chinese words and characters out loud* to help you to learn the proper pronunciation. You simply go to the reference page of the word or character, and tap on the Pinyin under “Readings:”. The image below is from the character reference page for the iPhone app version.

The app makes use of the speech support of the device’s operating system. Pronunciation is therefore dependent on the device manufacturer’s implementation of Chinese speech support. However, in our tests we have found this to be quite accurate standard Mandarin.
